The Wythe County Vocational School was unveiled on May 17, 1970. The school was constructed to provide Fort Chiswell High School, Rural Retreat High School, Bland High School, Rocky Gap High School and George Wythe High School students a place to develop career and technical skills. The school provided many different programs for students to participate in including: Home Economics, Business, Horticulture, Auto Mechanics, Masonry, Electronics, Carpentry and Drafting. As the years went on the school built an addition to add more classrooms. In the early 2000s, Wythe County Vocational School changed its name to the Wythe County Technology Center, or WCTC for short. Currently, the three Wythe County high schools are serviced by WCTC. The programs have developed and changed to meet the new demands of a worldwide economy. The programs housed at WCTC now include Nursing, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Computer Aided Drafting, Automotive Technology, Building Trades, Engineering, Welding, JROTC and Criminal Justice. The school has also become the home of adaptive education center, the GED/ISAEP program, Night School, the New Horizons Academy and the Wythe County cannery.
