Culinary Arts I (8275)

Students prepare for managerial, production, and service skills used in the government, commercial, or independently owned institutional food establishments and related food industry occupations. Their study includes planning, selecting, storing, purchasing, preparing, and serving food and food products; basic nutrition, sanitation, and food safety; the use and care of commercial equipment; serving techniques; and the operation of institutional
food establishments. Critical thinking, practical problem solving, and entrepreneurship opportunities within the field of culinary arts are emphasized. Teachers highlight the basic skills of math, science, and communication when appropriate. Industry Certification can be obtained by successful completion of the ProStart exams and 400 hours work experience in the field. HRI 158, Sanitation and Safety and HRI 106, Principles of Culinary Arts are offered at WCTC as optional dual credit classes in conjunction with WCC provided applicable prerequisites are met.
Culinary Arts II (8276)

Prerequisite: Culinary Arts I
Culinary Arts II provides students an opportunity to refine skills in serving, dining room management, and other skills learned in Culinary Arts I. Students prepare for occupations such as chef/cook, baker/pastry helper/pastry decorator, hospitality worker, dietetic aide/assistant, food demonstrator, and entrepreneur. Critical thinking,
practical problem solving, and entrepreneurship opportunities with the field of culinary arts are emphasized. Teachers highlight the basic skills of mathematics, science and communication when appropriate in content. Industry Certification can e obtained by successful completion of the ProStart exams and 400 hours work
experience in the field. HRI 107, Principles of Culinary Arts II and HR! 128, principles of Baking are offered at WCTC as optional dual credit classes in conjunction with WCC provided applicable prerequisites are met.
