Dear Parents and Guardians,
Unfortunately, due to the circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, Wythe County
Technology Center (WCTC) will not have our traditional, in person Commencement Exercises
this year. However, we hope we have found a way to provide some well-deserved recognition.
WCTC is excited to stream a pre-recorded, virtual graduation ceremony on June 17 at 6 p.m. for both our senior and junior completers. You will be able to access the ceremony on WCTC's
webpage located at https: //wctc.wythe.k12.va.us/ . We invite your students to gather online with their classmates, family, and friends as we confer their hard-earned industry certifications and completion certificates. The ceremony will include remarks from Dr. Scott Jefferies, our Superintendent of Schools, a speech by a special graduate speaker, and departing remarks from your student's instructor. To create this virtual graduation ceremony, we will be utilizing student yearbook pictures and some pictures their instructor has taken over the years. Should you not wish for us to use your student's photo in the virtual ceremony, please contact us by May 29th.
During the ceremony, I encourage your student to put on his or her cap, tassel, and gown to
celebrate with us. By doing so, when I pronounce them as graduates of WCTC, they will be able
to move their tassels from the right to left- a "life step" and "symbolic representation" of their
great achievements.
In addition to this virtual ceremony, we are also working collaboratively with the high schools to ensure a recognition for our senior completers at their home school's graduation ceremony.
Assuming we are able to offer a traditional in-person graduation ceremony next year, our current junior completers will be welcome to come back and participate in our graduation ceremony at that time.
Our candidates for graduation have attained a very high level of skill and competency in career
and technical education, and we are looking forward to recognizing this at our virtual graduation ceremony. We hope you join us!
